Lecture: Apocalypse in Colors (RUS)
26.10.2025 13:00 / Narva Castle
Event overview
Apocalyptic visions have long stirred the imagination and inspired church artists to create vivid, symbol-rich scenes. Why do monumental church paintings feature strange beasts, rivers of fire, and radiant thrones? What colors does an artist choose to depict the Last Judgment?
In this lecture, we will explore how fascination with mysticism across different eras gave rise to new themes and characters, especially those populating compositions of the Last Judgment. The talk focuses on the visual language of apocalyptic motifs in both ancient and contemporary church art.
Lecturer: Yulia Khlystun (PhD)
