Free lecture: The Secrets of the Christmas Image (RUS)
Event overview
Christmas is one of the most poetic and inspiring themes in world art.
For centuries, artists from East and West have interpreted this event in different ways, creating their own visual representations of light, silence, and wonder.
In Byzantine mosaics, the Christmas scene is rich in symbols and allusions, while Renaissance and Baroque masters sought to convey human emotions, spatial depth, and light.
During the lecture, we will explore how the artistic language of Christmas imagery has evolved, and discuss why some details remain unchanged for centuries, while others disappear or take on new meanings.
