Event overview

On the Narva River, just above the city, there is a waterfall with two steps, which was once the deepest waterfall in Europe. Now the bed of the waterfalls is mostly dry, but during a flood or heavy rainfall, the floodgates are opened and tons of water rush forward, striking with its magnificent beauty, just like a century ago. Krengolm Island is located between the two channels. In the 19th century, the famous Krenholm Manufactory was built next to the waterfalls, which at that time was the largest factory in the Russian Empire. In 1913, more than ten thousand people worked here. Around the manufactory itself, a compact complex of industrial architecture emerged, which included a factory, a hospital, workers 'barracks, directors' houses and Krenholm park. The buildings were built in English style with red brick.
