The lecture is dedicated to the fate of officers and soldiers of the Northwestern Army under General N. Yudenich, who were arrested by the Soviet authorities in Estonia in 1940-1941. We will explore the interrogation materials and examine testimonies about the war: how did individuals find themselves in the Civil War? What role did personal beliefs and chance play? What image of the war emerges from the interrogations of former soldiers and officers of Yudenich's army? Analyzing the NKVD investigation files, we will compare languages: how people in interrogations talked about, on the one hand, the Civil War and, on the other hand, their lives, participation in different societies before the Soviet annexation of Estonia. We will also refer to letters from White Guards to the authorities, written from the GULAG* and special settlements.

Lecturer: Timur Guzairov (PhD) - independent researcher, philologist, historian of culture and Estonian-Russian relations. Co-compiler of "Chronicles of Russian Social and Cultural Life in Estonia" (1918-1940) Vol. 2. Tallinn, 2017. Repeated participant in the "Esto-Russica" scientific seminar at the Narva College of Tartu University. Member of the "Jaan Kaplinski Society" (Jaan Kaplinski Selts).
