Model of Old Narva

Former Narva Furniture Factory building now houses the exhibition "Old. New. Narva. 1684/1984...2034». The exhibition focuses on two peaks of the city's fame with a focus on its future. The years 1684 and 1984 chosen for the exhibition symbolize the former prosperity of Narva, and 2034 is the near future of the city. When comparing these two peaks of the city's glory, Narva's identity in all its complexity is revealed. Modern Narva, as we know it, was built twice: in the second half of the 17th century, a magnificent trading city was erected, and from under the rubble of the Second World War, an industrial city arose.

Two bright moments of Narva's uniqueness are closely related to the concept of a border city. If the Swedish authorities first noted the great trade potential of Narva, then in the Soviet period it became a kind of exemplary city of the Estonian Soviet Republic on the western border of the Soviet Union. For better or worse, the past will never come back.

In two halls of the former furniture factory, a fascinating story unfolds about one of the most unique cities in Estonia, its symbols, people, buildings, dreams and values. In the authentically preserved assembly halls, the brightest moments of the two periods of Narva history are shown together with a paper model of the city of the Swedish period and a film program specially prepared within the framework of this project. The years 1684 and 1984 are reflected in the exhibition by rare exhibits, unique connections and exciting meetings. Future Narva is waiting for the active participation of visitors. To do this, the exhibition presents many topical installations, with the help of which you can actively reflect on the future of Narva with your family, friends or even make something exciting.

Nostalgia and regret for the gone glory will not help Narva. However, we can learn from this experience for the future. Narva needs the future more than the past!

NB! 16.04-24.09.2022 tours of the model every Saturday at 15:00 in Russian and at 16:00 in Estonian. Tickets are on pre-sale only.

At other times, visiting the model of Old Narva and the exhibition “Old. New. Narva. 1684/1984...2034" by reservation only.
