Narva-Ivangorod Castles 2
The Narva Museum Foundation will be starting the Estonian-Russian cross-border cooperation programme Narva-Ivangorod Castles 2 that aims to develop the unique Narva-Ivangorod cross border fortress ensemble into a common cultural and tourism object.
As a result of the project, the historical heritage will be restored and Narva Castle and Ivangorod Fortress will be made more accessible to the public, which will contribute to the increase of tourists in the region and stimulate local entrepreneurship.
The following project aims will be met by the end of 2022:
on the Estonian side:
the western courtyard of Narva Castle will be reconstructed, with mobility and transport opportunities being improved (including mobility for people with special needs) and infrastructure for organising major events built among other things
the outer walls of the western courtyard will be preserved and restored
the Christians' Wall will be reconstructed and host an exhibition dedicated to bastions
on the Russian side:
the Big Powder Granary of Ivangorod Fortress, where a new permanent exhibition will also be established, will be restored and opened to the public
The project, which started in September 2019, will last for 40 months, until 31 December 2022, and the total cost is 7,355,590.74 euros, of which 5,128,480.22 euros is funded by the Estonia-Russia Cross Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020.
The project budget is divided into
3,743,976.04 euros to Narva Museum Foundation, of which 3,248,273.61 euros is funded by the EU
3,611,614.70 euros to Leningrad Oblast Museum Agency, of which 1,880,206.61 euros is funded by the EU
In addition to the developments carried out in the course of the project, scientific research will also be conducted with the aim of shedding new light on the history of Narva Castle and Ivangorod Fortress. The research results will be compiled into a collection of articles which will be presented at a conference at the end of the project.
