In the photos: a clay smoking pipe likely made in the Netherlands in the mid-17th century, from the archaeological collection of the Narva Museum (NLM Ar 658). Beneath the windmill sits a cat, and in the round window of the mill, a mouse’s face can be seen. On the reverse side of the pipe is the joyful cat owner — a miller with a large sack.
