Memorial Day for the Victims of the March Deportation

This year marks 76 years since the crime against humanity committed by the Soviet occupation regime in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. In March 1949, more than 20,000 innocent Estonians were deported to Siberia in cattle wagons. Altogether, over 90,000 innocent people were deported from the Baltic states.

Unfortunately, the successor state of the USSR has not expressed remorse or learned from history. In the 21st century, we are witnessing Russia committing crimes against humanity in Ukraine alongside war crimes.

On March 25, candles are lit across Estonia to commemorate the victims of the March deportation.
