The lecture is dedicated to the history of the first year of Soviet rule in Estonia: June 1940 - June 1941. The focus of our attention will not be on the political events known from school textbooks. Instead, we will examine the Sovietization of Estonia through the prism of terror against the Russian-speaking population. We will trace the destinies of people involved with words (journalists, booksellers, writers, teachers). Additionally, we will analyze lists of confiscated literature from bookstores and publishers. During the lecture, we will delve into the investigative files of the NKVD of the Estonian SSR and explore the source-critical, methodological, linguistic, and psychological questions that arise during their reading and study.
Lecturer: Timur Guzairov (PhD) - an independent researcher, philologist, historian of culture, and expert on Estonian-Russian relations. Co-compiler of "Chronicles of Russian Social and Cultural Life in Estonia" (1918-1940) Vol. 2. Tallinn, 2017. A regular participant in the "Esto-Russica" scientific seminar at the Narva College of the University of Tartu. Member of the "Jaan Kaplinski Society" (Jaan Kaplinski Selts).
