During this period, our city faced extreme challenges. Among all the cities in Estonia, Narva suffered the most during this time. Military actions were taking place both in the city and its surroundings. Industrial enterprises either ceased operations or worked minimally, leading to a growing number of unemployed individuals each day. Military refugees poured into Narva from Russia, and an epidemic of typhus broke out. Supply of essential goods such as food, clothing, and footwear was disrupted. It was crucial to provide support to those in need during such times of crisis.
Join us for a lecture that will provide an overview of the social aid and charity efforts provided by the state, municipal authorities, and various organizations, both foreign and Estonian.
Galina Smirnova, a research associate and curator at the Narva Museum, will guide us through this exploration.
