The lecture "The Meaning and Structure of the Iconostasis. Features of Iconostases in Orthodox Churches in the City of Narva" is the fifth in the lecture series "Sacred Art" of the open lecture series of the Narva Museum.
During the lecture, you will delve into the history of the emergence and development of the Orthodox iconostasis, acquainting you with its structure, purpose, and spiritual meaning, which are most deeply revealed in the works of Protopresbyter Alexander Schmemann and Priest Pavel Florensky. The lecture will also examine the iconostases of Orthodox churches in the city of Narva.
The lecturer, Yuliya Khlystun, a research fellow at the Narva Museum, has spent many years studying the fresco programs of Orthodox churches in Ukraine, built in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. She is the author of numerous scholarly articles and is originally from Ukraine. In early March, Y. Khlystun joined the Narva Museum, and thanks to her expertise and narrow scientific specialization, the museum is uncovering previously unstudied aspects of the city's sacred culture.
The lecture will be conducted in Russian.

The lecture "The Meaning and Structure of the Iconostasis. Features of Iconostases in Orthodox Churches in the City of Narva" is part of the lecture series "Sacred Art," consisting of 5 lectures. The lectures will take place from May 18 to June 15, 2022, on Wednesdays at 18:00 in a hybrid format – both in the lecture hall of the Narva Museum and in the ZOOM environment. The lectures will be conducted in Russian.
