In our time, with the development of the internet and mobile phone communication, people rarely come into contact with this object. Yet not so long ago, this form of communication was very popular. During holidays, dozens of greeting cards were signed and sent in every family. Postcards are objects of collection in any historical museum. Despite their apparent simplicity and commonness, these items have a rich history, and studying them is an important source of new information about the past. During the lecture, we will delve into the history of postcard emergence, explore its various genres from urban landscapes to caricatures. We will find out which postcard from Narva in the collection of the Narva Museum is considered the oldest.

Svetlana Andreeva is a research fellow and custodian of the photo collection at the Narva Museum. Her areas of scientific interest include the architecture and urban planning of Narva.

Cost of one lecture: 5€.
