20.10.2024 11:00 / Narva Castle

Event overview

The Kreenholm factories could rightfully be called a magical place where hardworking fairies created unforgettable patterns that many people remember for a lifetime. Intricate botanical ornaments, playful tiny flowers, and elegant almond-shaped lines of oriental designs – all of these were the work of textile artists employed at the Kreenholm finishing factory.

On October 20 at 11:00, we invite you to an engaging lecture dedicated to the aspects of being an artist in the textile industry. Participants will learn about the history of fabric pattern printing, as well as the variety of techniques and styles represented through the works of artists from Kreenholm's artistic workshops.

We will discuss the artistic design of textile products and the fabric design process from "A" to "Z." You'll discover how artists created original designs for fabric printing, from sketching botanical forms to producing finished fabrics.

At the end of the lecture, we'll create our own botanical motif and print it onto a textile bag. Don't miss the opportunity to dive into the world of textile art and learn more about the fascinating profession of an artist!

The event will be led by Olga Tyurina – head of the Narva artists' association "Vestervalli," teacher at the Narva Art School, and an artist from the workshop of the former Kreenholm finishing factory.

Price: 15 euros
Duration: About 2 hours
All necessary materials, tools, and a coffee break are included in the workshop fee.

The project is supported by the Estonian Cultural Endowment and the Ida-Virumaa expert group.
