Excursion "Sacral Narva"

The excursion will introduce you to one of the outstanding monuments of the sacral architecture of Narva - the Orthodox Resurrection Cathedral. The Cathedral was built in 1896 for the workers of Krenholm Manufactory and was among the few city buildings that survived the bombing of the city in 1944. To this day, the Cathedral has preserved its original murals, an iconostasis and several unique icons associated with ancient urban legends.

During the excursion we will talk about the Byzantine heritage in the temple's architecture and iconostasis and the trends of Art Nouveau. We will also learn about the connection between the temple paintings of the Resurrection Cathedral and the paintings made by the outstanding artist V. Vasnetsov in 1896 in the Cathedral of St. Vladimir in Kiev. We will go down to the lower temple, and then we will go up to the choir and the bell tower to look at the Cathedral and the city from a very special angle.
