The Narva Museum invites you to attend an excursion "Hidden Symbols in Temple Painting". All Christian art, especially icon painting, has been deeply symbolic since the first centuries of its existence. This symbolism is inseparable from church art because the sacred knowledge it preserves cannot be transmitted other than by symbols and codes. What is the meaning behind the monumental church painting? What messages and stories are encrypted in the vivid temple paintings?
You will learn all this by getting acquainted with the painting of the Orthodox church in honor of the Narva Icon of the Mother of God (39 Rakvere Street), performed in the Byzantine style at the beginning of the 21st century. Julia Hlystun, a researcher at the Narva Museum, will help you unriddle the ancient Christian codes.
