Event overview

At the exhibition is displayed an unusual collection of paintings from the 17th century. These are portraits of the holy fathers - outstanding teachers of the Christian Church who lived in the 3rd-12th centuries. it is known that previously a series of these portraits was located in the Dome Cathedral, built in the mid-17th century for the Swedish community of Narva. Later the collection was exhibited in the house of Peter I, first museum in Narva.
What makes this collection especially valuable is the fact that the paintings survived unharmed, although both the Dome Cathedral and the house-museum of Peter I were destroyed by Soviet aircraft during the bombing of the city of Narva in 1944.
The images of saints help not only to get acquainted with the artistic language of sacred painting of the 17th century, but also allow you to look into the faces of people who became models of piety for many generations.
